Happy October 1st!
First, I want to thank you all for signing up for my email list. Second, thank you for bearing with my sporadic updates. It has been quite the summer and our family is just starting to settle into a routine once again. Well, a routine that we can keep up with long-term.
To celebrate slowing down and the beautiful fall foliage, I am offering free shipping on all books at my store (www.alexandriamaxwellwrites.com/store). Use the code FREEOCT now through the 8th.
So, what have I been working on? THE ONE! I think a few of you have been around long enough to know what THE ONE is, but for those of you who don’t, let me catch you up. In 2014, I convinced my professor to let me take Advanced Creative Writing: Fiction as a freshman, even though it was an upper level class. And that’s when I started writing the novel(la) THE ONE. It’s about a couple who are approaching their one year wedding anniversary. The wife (Jess) thinks, “Wow, marriage is a lot harder than I anticipated it would be.” And she begins to think that maybe she married the wrong person. Maybe there is one perfect person out there for everyone and you have to find them and she picked the wrong one. If that’s the case, what should she do now?
So THE ONE follows Jess throughout a day of doubting and anxiety. I started writing it in 3rd person. Then, I re-wrote it in 1st person POV. And now I’m rewriting it a final time back in 3rd person. I really think that’s the best POV to show what Jess is thinking, as well as round out Michael (husband) and Gladys (mother-in-law).
I’m not even going to offer a date of when I would like to publish it because I’ve set a date on this project so many times and neither I nor THE ONE have been ready at the same time. But I can see the publication of this project coming up soon, and that is so exciting.
I actually was able to spend last weekend in Bemidji for a craft retreat last minute and made some major progress on it. Seth took the kids back to Warroad and I had an amazing weekend. I got to 1) drink my coffee hot! 2) have conversations with other adults without being interrupted by a toddler or have to keep an eye on both kids and 3) I got to work on my novel! Seth told me that when I make it big as a writer, he’d love to be a stay at home dad so I guess they had a great weekend as well.
P.S. Kim Hruba’s “There’s no place like home” Community Storytelling Event was last night and it was so much fun! I think you can still watch the video if you weren’t able to make it.
