I’m starting a new series of blog posts on my website this summer! But before I introduce that, I want to give those of you who don’t know my family a little bit of our story.
Seth and I got married in college and by the time we graduated we had already moved five times during our marriage! The fifth move was into a camper and we left graduation day Ohio-bound. A ministry had offered us the opportunity to work with them post-graduation. Seth had interned with them in high school and it was his dream job. And us pursuing full-time ministry gave me the opportunity to live out my dream of being a poet and writer!
We knew being in full-time ministry was what we were going to do vocationally for the rest of our lives, and the camper was the right fit for our lifestyle. I didn’t want to spend the majority of the year apart, and we also didn’t want to have a house or apartment somewhere that we were paying on but only using 30 days out of the year (like our coworkers). I convinced Seth to move into a camper (I know, everyone thinks Seth is the adventurous one but RV life was my idea) and then we somehow got our parents on board. I think we just wore them down.
The camper was always going to be a temporary solution. We both really wanted (and still do!) a tiny house on wheels that we could take with us. But we didn’t have the time or money to build one from scratch or have a custom one built for us. So we figured we’d live in the camper until we paid it off and then sell it and hopefully have money for some land and savings for a tiny house.
Having a “big” house wasn’t on our radar, at all. But now we’re renovating a 100+ year old farmhouse that we’re having moved to our land!In a “just enough, just in time” way, God’s provided us a a home-base that is MN winter worthy and a great fit for our family and the best part: we’ll get to live on the land we bought in 2019! The first post (about how we ended up in Northern MN) is already up, and you can click on the image above to read it.
I’ll be writing about the process of building up Hartsfield Homestead, from the swamp up! From how we got the house, to getting our land ready for the move, to aesthetic choices we make with the interior design and everything in between! We’ve got an exceptional team helping us out, too!
I can’t wait to share our next adventure with you!
